The dried fruit rind of Gacinia quaesita, also known as Malabar tamarind, is a unique source of hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which has been safety used for centuries in South-eastern Asia to make meals more filling. Recent scientific evidence demonstrates that up to 2 800mg of HCA per day in divided doses for 8 weeks assists in weight management by moderating appetite and inhibiting body fat biosynthesis.
A controlled study examining the effects of standardised Coleus forskohlii extract (equivalent to forskolin 25mg twice daily) for 12 weeks, showed favourable effects on body composition in overweight people. Forskolin is known to promote healthy thyroid function and stimulate fat metabolism in fat cells.
Another controlled study demonstrates that standardised Gymnema sylveste extract (equivalent to gymnemic acid 100mg per day) may help maintain normal blood sugar regulation (especially when combined with chromium) in healthy people and improve outcomes in weight management.
Finally, research into one of the most important Ayurvedic and Oriental medicines demonstrates that standardised Cinnamomum cassia extract can inhibit an enzyme called PTP-1B to support normal leptin and insulin action maintaining healthy metabolic function and body weight.
